APFA and Crew Resources Discuss High December Reserve Numbers - LUS

APFA has heard from many of our LUS Flight Attendants regarding the planned Reserve numbers for December. Although they are very similar to the required Reserves in December 2014, it is a disappointment due to the predicted reduction in Reserves with the implementation of the Preferential Bidding System. In addition, there are new hire LUS Flight Attendants joining us in December that were not even factored into the equation as of today.

One factor contributing to the same year-over-year December staffing is the high sick utilization at the four LUS bases. We share our members viewpoint that many of the reasons for these high sick calls are within the Company’s control, and we have repeatedly expressed that position.

Due to the high line averages and the inflexibility of the 3% open time restriction in ISAP, Management is creating their own problem. In our opinion, if the Company would reduce the line average by distributing the time among more Lineholders, they could reduce the Reserve headcount, and ultimately wind up with better holiday coverage.

APFA Base Presidents and APFA National Representatives participated in a conference call with Crew Resources yesterday in an effort to reduce the Reserve headcount. Crew Resources committed to review the numbers and possibly adjust the required number of Reserves for December. This could mean that there may be a slightly reduced line average in PBS. We will keep you posted with any changes.
